A Note from Mrs. Streeter:
Now that we are learning to write more than one sentence on a subject, many children in our class are making little booklets at home. Their booklets have about 4 pages. Each page has a picture at the top with a sentence or two to describe the picture. Have your child try this whenever time allows.
Some suggested topics are listed below:
- Fun Times
- A Family Vacation
- My Pet
- My Family
- I Like School
- Anything that is of interest to your child
Follow the directions below if you would like to try this with your child:
- Supply paper, pens, markers, a pencil, and crayons for your child
- Have your child pick a topic and list a few ideas for that topic
- Ask your child to circle one idea from the list to write about
- Draw four different pictures about the one idea on four different pages
- After drawing all four pictures, have your child write a sentence or two about each picture
- Tape, fold, or staple the sheets together. (Use notebook or any type of paper)
- Those of you that love technology may wish help your child make a booklet using the computer. (The sky is the limit!)
We love it when our friends bring their books to school to share with the class! This is an excellent enrichment activity that can be done on rainy days, weekends, or whenever your child would like something fun to do. Please know that this is optional. However, I feel this activity can enhance your child’s reading and writing skills. So give it a try and stir up those creative juices in your child! He or she will always remember the quality time that you spend with them.
Homework:
Parents should look for a new homework format. The reduction of assignments should allow more time for reading and creative writing.
Thanks to All Parents who attended Parent/Teacher Conferences!
